Level Requirements

The Learn-to-Swim program focuses on building skills one step at a time. By giving kids the opportunity to master one element before moving on to the next, our classes make it easy to build confidence in the water. 

Over time, we have enhanced our curriculum to best suit the learning needs of our students. Rooted in the Red Cross Swim Skills program, our curriculum reflects our commitment to delivering a dynamic and optimized educational experience.


Key Learnings

Level 0

Introduces young swimmers to the water through fun, guided activities that build comfort, coordination, and social skills.

Students will learn to:

Ages 3-5

  • Blow bubbles
  • Alligator crawl
  • Put ears under the water
  • Monkey crawl
  • Learn to follow directions
  • Build social skills


Level 1

Introduces swimmers to basic water skills and safety, helping them build confidence and comfort through supported movement and floating.

Students will learn to:

Ages 5+

  • Jumping in the pool
  • 5 second breath hold
  • 5 bobs
  • 5 second back float 
  • 3 second front float
  • Float to standing
  • Roll over float
  • Supported front stroke
  • Supported backstroke
  • Supported glides
  • Arm and hand treading action
  • Pool safety


Level 2

Builds on basic skills with increased independence, helping swimmers gain confidence through floating, gliding, and swimming short distances.

Students will learn to:

Ages 5+

  • Jumping into water above height
  • Retrieving underwater objects
  • 10 second breath hold
  • 7 second back float
  • 10 second front float
  • Front glide
  • Back glide
  • Pool length front stroke
  • Pool length backs stroke
  • Pool safety 


Level 3

Focuses on refining stroke technique, building endurance, and increasing confidence in deeper water through more advanced guided practice.

Students will learn to:

Ages 6+

  • 20 second front float
  • 20 second back float
  • Dolphin Kicks
  • Elementary stroke
  • Side stroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Front Stroke
  • Backstroke
  • Jumping into deep water
  • Retrieve 6ft deep object
  • Kneeling Dive
  • Pool Safety


Level 4

Helps swimmers develop greater confidence, strength, and coordination as they refine strokes and learn more advanced aquatic skills.

Students will learn to:

Ages 7+

  • Tread water using 2 different kicks
  • Feet first surface dive
  • Survival stroke
  • Front stroke 25 yds
  • Elementary backstroke 25 yds
  • Breaststroke 15 yds
  • Backstroke 15 yds
  • Sidestroke 15 yds
  • Open turns (front and back)
  • Flutter and dolphin kick
  • Pool safety


Level 5

Focuses on stroke refinement, endurance, and advanced water skills to help swimmers become more efficient and confident in the pool.

Students will learn to:

Ages 8+

  • Shallow dive
  • Tuck-surface dive
  • Pike-surface dive
  • Tread water 5 minutes 
  • Front stroke 50 yds
  • Elementary backstroke 50 yds
  • Breaststroke 25 yds
  • Backstroke 25 yds
  • Sidestroke 25 yds
  • Pool Safety

It is common for children to need to retake courses in order to fully grasp each skill.
